Football gear/tools for kids?

Are there any tools or gear for kids to practice football when it's not in season?
For example - you can buy the machines that will pitch a ball to a batter or a ball to a tennis player... is there anything that could throw a football so a kid could practice running out and catching it? (No - I'm not good enough to throw the ball myself.)
Is there anything to help a child practice tackling?
Can you think of any toys/tools/gear a child could use on the off season to fine tune and practice abilities? (I don't mean other sports he can play - but things that he could get as gifts and then use to help him...)
