Educational gift for 2 year old boy??

His parents said they would like an educational toy or anything to help him learn. i only could think of puzzles or books. & i only know of baby einstein or the leapfrog brands of educational toys. i want to get him something that will make learning fun. he's turning 2 & hopefully i can find something that he will use for a few years. any suggestions? thank you!
